Aromatherapy and
Pregnancy
Can Aromatherapy Help in Pregnancy?
There has been many debates going on among the aroma therapists
and authors of books written on the subject of aromatherapy
and pregnancy about whether or not they should use oils during
pregnancy.
The main reason behind such widely differing opinions is
that there is a fear of which there exists enough evidence
to propose that using oils during pregnancy may cause spontaneous
abortions. Or in short, the oils act as some sort of abortificacents,
which might also cause contractions of the uterus. It is also
recommended that people who consume alcohol to avoid from
these oils. However, there is no clear evidence that whether
the oils used in such cases were ingested internally, which
is something not recommended.
A safe and trusted way of using aromatherapy during pregnancy
is to get personal guidance from a qualified aromatherapy
practitioner, as every woman might have individual needs and
the aromatherapy practitioner will be able to study individual
cases and then recommend blends and suitable dosages, for
each case. There are several beneficial oils such as rose,
jasmine and clary sage which can be used during actual delivery,
despite the fact that there are contraindications during pregnancy.
There are a astonishing number of changes which occur to
the body during pregnancy, from morning sickness to stretch
marks and so much more. As almost all medicines and traditional
remedies are not allowed, natural methods can greatly help
to soothe the symptoms. For pregnant women it is recommended
that they avoid herbs like bay leaves, clove, basil, clary
sage, sage, marjoram, oregano, thyme and wintergreen.
Other aromatherapy oils used during pregnancy are such as
peppermint, spearmint, lemon, lavender, geranium and rosewood.
If you want to cure skin problems, then you might want to
try out rose Otto, while for back rubs use Roman Chamomile.
Lavender, 3 drops of Grapefruit, or 2 drops of orange will
greatly ease fatigue. For swollen legs and feet, common during
pregnancy, one can use 3 drops of lavender, 2 drops of cypress
or 2 drops of Juniper.
Easing muscular cramps and some other aches in the muscles
can be achieved by making use of 3 drops of Lavender or 3
drops of Roman Chamomile. Aromatherapy in pregnancy is one
way of reducing many of the ailments which are common in pregnant
women, although it is always better to consult your physician
before beginning any such regimen.
