History Of Body Building
The History Of Body Building
The glory days of body building were said to be from the
late 1960s to the late 1970s. In fact, body building had started
years before the said date. In order to find out, all you
have to do is take a look at the old circus and carnival circuit
and see how outstandingly the strongman was presented. From
strongmen of the old days to the prominent personalities of
today, bodybuilding is definitely an important facet of pop
culture.
The Pioneers
If there were anyone who should be regarded as the pioneer,
it would be Bob Hoffman, whom had started to promote bodybuilding
in the 1930s. In the later years, the legendary Joe Weider
began to promote body builder types and the sport in general
with the launch of his own publications, which had brought
the attention to the sport. And later, Weider continued to
become the promoter of the Mr. Olympia contest which was the
premiere bodybuilding contest in the world.
Steve Reeves, was another person who helped to draw attention
to the body building world. Reeves had a body that no one
had ever had before. He was tapped to play Hercules in two
silly Italian films on the strength (pun intended) of Reeves’
look. The films succeeded a $12 Million dollars record at
the box office.
And at last, the body building true superstar finally appeared
when a man who barely spoke English headed to Weider’s
gym to train for the Mr. Olympia. That person was none other
than Arnold Schwarzenegger. He had a physique like no one
had ever seen before. He had charming charisma that launched
the glory years of body building in an era that saw the rise
of some of the biggest legendary names in the business. In
the documentary of Pumping Iron, the era has been captured
perfectly.
The public has always wondered about the world of body building,
there was a curiosity that had motivated them to take a curious
look at it. This is especially true for some young boys, they
would aspire to become body builders themselves. All of them
wanted large muscles like Arnold’s. This interest in
bodybuilding has spawned out of the glory years, which has
allowed the business to thrive and turn into a multi-million
dollar business which is still going strong by today. This
is the true legacy of the era, and it is a legacy that will
endure for many years to come.
