Busy Lifestyle &
Weight Loss
”How Do I Lose Weight In My Busy Lifestyle?”
Most of the people of today have busy lives, and fine tuning
our eating habits is not the priority on the list. We tend
to just grab a bite to eat at a restaurant, especially fast
food, while going to and from work or kid’s activities.
No doubt, this is the main cause of obesity. On top of that,
a demanding job that allows little or no time for exercise
just worsens the problem!
If you have a lot of weight to lose, it is indeed a hard
task to do it. If one pound is approximately 3,500 calories,
it means you would have to exercise enough to burn that many
calories just to lose a single point. And thinking about the
amount of the exercise you have to do is just depressing.
Therefore, the best advice is always: take it slow. Don’t
try to lose the weight all at once, especially if you have
a lot of weight to lose.
Take it slow, here’s what you can do instead: commit
a small change in your lifestyle every week, and you will
be closer to your goal each week. Think of these as long-lasting
changes, and that’s exactly what they should be. You
aren’t ‘going on’ a diet with the intention
of coming off it again in a week or a month from now. It should
be a long term health and fitness by taking easy but steady
steps towards it, a little at a time.
First of all, drink enough water. It becomes very hard to
lose weight if you are always dehydrated. When you are dehydrated,
your metabolism will slow down too. Besides, if you’re
thirsty, it is easy to mistake that thirst for hunger and
this is the main reason why many people end up eating when
they aren’t actually hungry – thirst is driving
them to crave ‘wet’ foods, such as yogurt or ice
cream. The point is that if you’re not hungry, you shouldn’t
be eating anything, not even vegetables or yogurt.
Generally, an adult needs eight to ten glasses of water a
day to sustain their life. Of course, if it’s particularly
hot, or if you’ve been losing moisture by exercising
a lot, you might need even more water. Eight to ten glasses
is just the minimum requirement.
Besides, you might want to start incorporating ‘passive
exercise’ into your day as much as you can. Passive
exercise means the exercise that you get while going about
your daily routine. For a start, you can choose to take the
stairs instead of the elevator, or getting off the bus a couple
of stops early and walking to your destination, or the miles
that you log in while shopping at the mall, these are all
simple yet effective examples of passive exercise.
It is called ‘passive’ because you don’t
have to go out and do it, instead, you make it part of your
daily routine. This type of exercise is great, because everyone
has time for it, and there is no special sports equipment
required. Be sure to make time for passive exercise.
Thirdly, load up on fresh food, fruits and vegetables. This
is a good idea for a whole variety of reasons, of course,
not the least of which is the fact that these foods fight
cancer. They are effective to help you to lose weight by replacing
high calorie food in your diet, and they make you feel full
due to the high fiber.
Basically, these three tips do not cost you any money or
time. All it takes is just a little bit of planning and some
consciousness of your weight loss goals. Gradually, you will
find yourself living a healthy life following these golden
tips.
