The Causes Of Male
Infertility
Low Sperm Count & Male Infertility
No doubt, the role of a man in the process of conceiving
a child is just as important as the role of the woman. Given
to such situation, the key factor is the man’s sperm.
Most of the time, the cause of male infertility can be traced
to discrepancies within the man’s sperm.
When a couple has problem conceiving, the woman and the man
will both undergo fertility testing. For the man the analysis
of the sperm takes into consideration two aspects. The first
aspect is the sperm count and a normal sperm count is said
to have a density or count of 20 million per milliliter of
seminal fluid.
The other aspect of the male sperm is the movement density
of the sperm or the motile density. The analysis of the motile
density determines the number of sperm which can reach the
ovulated ovum and thus boost the chances for fertilization
of the egg.
There are many reasons and factors that may lead to low sperm
count in male infertility. Some of those common reasons include
age, stress, and sperm being subject to higher than average
temperatures and smoking.
Age
The age of a man is also one of the main causes of male infertility,
is also the reason of low sperm count. And of course a man
can not turn back the hands of time. However, by minimizing
other negative factors of contributing to a low sperm count,
fertilization of a woman’s egg is not out of the question.
Besides that, there is prescription medication that may be
prescribed which will send signals to the testicles. These
are the chemical signals may stimulate the testicles, the
male hormonal center, to increase the man’s sperm count.
Stress
Stress has been another major factor that may be a cause
of male infertility, also contributes to a low sperm count.
Stress may be derived from a multitude of sources. These sources
can include emotional stress, physical stress or stress that
may be purely psychological in nature.
It is known that stress can dramatically reduce the level
of the sperm count. The medical reason behind this condition
is that a hormone, GnRH, is disturbed. This interruption greatly
reduces the male sperm count.
Increased Temperatures
Another identified cause of male infertility is the increased
temperature in the male’s groin area. These above average
temperatures can be experienced through a sickness that has
an accompanying fever, also the use of saunas and exposure
to hot tubs. High temperature can significantly reduce the
male sperm count.
Smoking
Smoking has been one of the identified causes of male infertility,
resulting from a low sperm count, is smoking. Smoking will
both minimize the sperm count and affect the sperm’s
ability to be mobile. These are the bad effects of smoking
contributing to male infertility, are also coupled with a
study conducted which indicated that men who smoke have a
subdued sex drive.
