Congenital Heart Disease
Overview Of Congenital Heart Disease?
Congenital heart disease is a very critical condition and
the causes have not been yet identified. Despite of many research
studies, it is hard to pinpoint the exact cause behind the
development of the congenital heart disease. It is known that
it is that it affects children, right from the time they are
in the womb.
Types of Congenital Heart Disease
Generally, there are two types of congenital heart disease,
which are improper connection between the articles and ventricles
which leads the oxygenated blood to the body instead of the
lungs and a hole in the heart. There are several symptoms
of the disease, which include breathing problems and breathlessness,
complaint of constant fatigue, very poor weight gain, cyanosis
and severe regular chest pains among others.
Some of the doctors point out that sometimes congenital heart
disease is caused by the abuse of certain medication and/or
drugs like cocaine, alcohol by the mother during pregnancy.
The diagnosis is usually done with the help of targeted tests
such as such as chest X-rays, position emission tomography,
electrocardiogram, pulse oximetry, echocardiogram and intravascular
catheterization.
Once the diagnosis is complete, the consequent treatment
will be determined by the severity of the disease. There are
many cases where surgery is the only chance of survival. The
bad side is, this is a very expensive medical intervention
and requires highly experienced and qualified doctors to assure
the success of the surgery.
As the science advanced and nano technology applications
in surgery, better surgical methods have been discovered,
and hence increasing the success rate for the children suffering
from congenital heart disease.
We should always have an early diagnosis so that treatment
and surgery can be negotiated at the earliest possible time.
It is better to do the surgery earlier to increase the chances
of survival for the child.
Parents should also make an effort to protect the child from
high physical and mental stress to prevent stress on heart
and early heart failure. Always watch out for the symptoms
to ensure that the child receives proper medical attention
in time.
Since there are signs with congenital heart disease or found
through ultrasound tests during pregnancy, it would advisable
for the parents to contact specialized help at the earliest
stage possible.
Sometimes, a little timely medical attention can make big
difference to the patient. So, all efforts should be done
to get the child the required medical attention as early as
possible.
