DIY Part II: Home Hair Removal Techniques
Now that you have seen and understood the tips for shaving,
tweezing, and depilatories in Part 1, now let’s move
on to some other home hair removal treatments that are available.
Tips for Waxing
Waxing generally hurts! Make sure that your skin is 100%
clean and dry before waxing. There should be no trace of lotions
or creams. Apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth.
Cover your hair with the right amount of thickness. Thin wax
formulations are OK for fine hair. Of course if you have thick
hair you will need a thicker wax. Hairs that are shorter than
1/8 of an inch are not good candidates for waxing. Usually,
waxing can last for as long as a month or more.
Tips for Bleaching
Basically, bleaching cannot be taken as a hair removal technique.
Instead, it lightens the hair which makes it more difficult
to be seen. Never ever use laundry bleach though! Purchase
cosmetically approved bleaching creams designed to be used
on the body. Bleaching is commonly used on the hair above
a woman's lip although some women use it on other parts of
their body. It is common that you get skin irritation, so,
you should always test on a small area first. Bleached hair
may stand out against tanned or dark skin, so it might not
be suitable for all. The bleaching process must be repeated
every two to three weeks.
Tips for using Abrasives
If we have some fine hairs grown our body, we can simply
remove them by rubbing the skin with abrasive pumice stones
or special 'hair removal gloves' which are lined with a fine
sandpaper. Do so by rubbing the stone or gloves in a circular
motion over the area to be treated. To avoid damaging your
skin, use only light pressure. Expect a certain degree of
skin irritation despite your best efforts. The effects of
abrasive treatment usually last for three weeks or more.
Tips for using Epilation
Epilation is a general term for hair removal methods that
remove the hair from below the skin's surface. Epilation includes
waxing, electrolysis and laser treatments.
Tips for Undergoing Electrolysis
Of course, home electrolysis methods will not be as good
as electrolysis treatment provided by experts with professional
equipment. If right equipment and techniques are used, electrolysis
will result in permanent hair removal. You should always read
the label and warnings carefully before purchasing any home
electrolysis equipment.
Choose carefully when buying any equipment, choose the one
that
comes with a blunt needle that can be inserted alongside of
the hair follicle. 'Electric tweezers' do not provide good
results. Use a depilatory or wax the area to be treated before
using electrolysis. And then, wait for the hair to start reappear
and then begin the electrolysis process. Hair will respond
better to electrolysis when it is in the growing cycle rather
than once it is fully emerged. Always keep your equipment
clean and sterilized. By using a dirty needle, it can cause
serious infection. Work on only a square inch at a time. Expect
skin swelling after the treatment. Since most home electrolysis
treatments do not remove your hair permanently, you may have
to repeat the process every other month.
Since we have mentioned quite some tips for hair removal
techniques, I hope you have learned enough about your available
hair removal treatment options to decide which one is most
likely to work for your individual needs. Remember to read
and follow the product's instructions exactly as they are
written before using any treatment.
