Eating At Restaurant
Tips To Weight Loss By Eating At Home
Some interesting new research shows that, if you are trying
to lose weight, you are better off staying home than eating
in a restaurant. Given the fact that almost two-thirds of
Americans are overweight, and most of the people spend at
least part of their day in restaurants, the findings are mostly
troubling.
According to Dr. Caroline Cederquist, who is a physician
specializing in weight management, in 1978, less than 20 percent
of the calories Americans consumed were eaten outside the
home. And, in 2003, the number had climbed to about 50 percent.
Cederquist says that restaurant food usually contain higher
in calories because it depends so much on salt, sugar, and
oil.
Besides that, the food served in restaurant is always larger
in portions, making it difficult to make healthy choices.
It has been expected that restaurant servings are commonly
three to four times greater than typical serving sizes. And
now, most of the restaurants serve bread or rolls with a meal,
which will just increase your pounds.
The appetizers offered in restaurants are usually extremely
high in calories. For example, a basket of fried onions can
pack a whopping 2,000 calories. Now, you might say that you
are not going to devour the entire basket all by yourself,
but, chances are you will have a good share of it if it is
passed around the table.
Many restaurants now offer free refills of soda. Soda glasses
also tend to be large, which also means that you will be drinking
more sugary beverage. Just the soda alone can put you far
over your daily recommended allowance of calories for weight
loss.
Another major problem is, we have been conditioned to clean
our plates. With plate sizes growing in restaurants, this
has encouraged the process of weight gain. You may feel morally
obligated to eat everything that’s placed in front of
you, despite the fact that your weight and health might suffer.
Once people are used to large portions when eating out, they
will have a tendency to increase their portion sizes at home
as well. Subsequently, dieters can be sabotaged both in restaurants
and at home. So, if you eat out more than once a week, it
might be hard to limit your food portion.
The restaurant buffet is probably the greatest challenge
to all dieters. With so many different foods being offered,
it is even harder to restrict yourself. Since you can make
as many trips to food as you like, you tend to overeat. Therefore,
dieticians recommend either avoiding the restaurant buffet
altogether, or limiting your second portions to fruits and
vegetables.
The food served in restaurants is another common problem
as they tend to be rich in fat and calories, these foods are
such as fettucini Alfredo, prime rib, and fried chicken. However,
there are several restaurants are now designating low-fat
entrees on their menus, a trend which bodes well for the future.
But of course this trend has not become a popular trend yet.
Of course, eating out does not have to mean eating at restaurants.
It could be eating in the car, where you are more likely to
non-nutritious snacking, or eating at parties of your friends.
At parties, there are plenty of diet-saboteurs such as potato
chips and cookies, and it is real hard to resist such goodies.
The best way to avoid gaining pound is probably eating at
home prior to party.
So, what if you have to eat out several times a week? You
have to make sure that you stick to your diet plan and don’t
be tempted to indulge in the wrong food.
Select entrees with vegetables, and resist the urge to order
dessert. You might want to eat only half of your meal and
box up the rest for your next meal. Never ever starve yourself
before eating out as this tends to cause you to overeat. Following
sensible eating patterns, both at restaurants and at home
can help greatly to achieve your ideal weight.
