Female Infertility
The Reasons Behind Female Infertility
Female reproduction is extremely complicated, and it is indeed
a miracle that we can actually initiate and support artificial
pregnancies. The most basic factors for women to conceive
naturally include healthy eggs, healthy fallopian tubes, a
healthy uterus, normal hormones and a healthy body that can
support her through out the pregnancy time.
However, female infertility can happen due to some specific
factors.
The Egg
In cases of female infertility, eggs may be absent or may
not be released from the ovary or even deformed. Polycystic
Ovarian Disease is one of such example of female infertility
which is related to egg production.
The infertility of females related to egg problems may or
may not be treated. If a woman fails to produce healthy eggs,
she can still get pregnant with in vitro fertilization using
donor eggs.
The Fallopian Tubes
The fallopian tubes are often the site of female infertility
because fertilization usually takes place in the tube. Tubal
problems may also prevent the egg from reaching the uterus,
and the sperm from reaching the egg, or prevent the occurrence
of fertilization.
Tubal female infertility may be caused by several factors,
such as pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted
diseases, previous tubal pregnancy or other problems. Most
of the time, the doctor will perform a hysterosalpingogram
to identify any tubal deformities. The problem sometimes can
be treated by correcting structural problems.
Uterine Problems
In order for a fertilized egg to grow into a baby, it must
be implanted into the uterine wall properly. A uterus which
is scarred, misshapen or abnormal can prevent implantation.
Hormonal Abnormalities
Egg maturation, ovulation, fertilization, implantation and
pregnancy are all controlled by the relationship of a complicated
array of hormones. Any abnormalities of these hormones can
cause female infertility. If the hormones are released at
the wrong time it will directly cause female infertility.
On the other hand, hormone levels can be adjusted and manipulated
to the point that post-menopausal women can carry a child
to term through hormonal support.
Health Problems
It is clear that some diseases prevent a woman from carrying
a baby to term simply because her body cannot support pregnancy.
One of such tragic example is eating disorders. Generally,
women with anorexia or bulimia are often unable to produce
hormones because they are lacking of the necessary nutrients
to manufacture them. Besides, they are too malnourished to
support a growing baby.
From here, you can see that there are so many causes for
infertility that it is amazing that so many women do conceive.
It’s a miracle that technology is available to help
the woman who cannot conceive naturally, to successfully get
pregnant and have babies.
