For a diabetic who wants to lose weight, it is not just about what you eat, what and how much you eat together matters. Foods react differently together and for optimal
performance and the best affect on your blood glucose level, you might want to follow the guidelines given below.

Basically, you should have a combination of carbohydrates and protein for each meal and you can have fat in moderation. The food group of a diabetic should include the carbohydrate category, carbohydrates can be found in:

* Fruits
* Vegetables

* Bread
* Grains

In order to cut down on blood sugars and lose weight, a diet where carbohydrates are counted and controlled will be deemed necessary . Depending on your weight and height your dietician will provide you with the amount of carbohydrates that you can have at each meal. However, some carbohydrates are proven to be better choices than others; so, always choose fresh and whole wheat whenever possible.

Besides, you should only choose carbohydrates in which contain high fiber to reduce your blood glucose levels and will keep you feeling full for longer. Basically, higher fiber content allows you to eat more an item without suffering the consequences later on.

At each meal, a small amount of protein will help counter-act the carbohydrate’s affect of increasing blood sugars. Protein will also sustain you longer and thus you will not feel hungry as quickly if you did not have protein at one of your meals or for snack. And also, you should always choose high-quality protein that is not fried. Make it a habit to remove excess fat when it is possible such as chicken skin before putting it into your mouth.
