Green Tea and Losing Weight
Fat-Fighting with Green Tea
Green tea has been widely used for centuries by both the
Chinese and Japanese as a drink and as an herbal medicine.
And its benefits as herbal medicine finally started to gain
notice and popularity recently from the medical profession
of the western world.
Over the years, there have been many studies have been conducted
on the antioxidant and chemotherapeutic effects of green tea.
And now, research conducted in both Switzerland and United
States shows that there may be a strong connection between
green tea and losing weight.
As published in the December 1999 issue of the American Journal
of Clinical Nutrition and Urology, the study showed that certain
compounds that are plentiful in green tea extracts might promote
weight loss. Dr. Abdul Dulloo led the research at the University
of Geneva on a group of 10 healthy young men and the group
ranged in size from lean to mildly overweight, and were put
on a typical American diet. On top of that, they were asked
to take a capsule with green tea and caffeine, a caffeine
capsule, or a placebo with each meal. Results indicated that
those gentlemen that took the green tea capsules were able
to burn more calories on average. This shows that the connection
between green tea and losing weight might not be a myth after
all.
Green Tea and the Fight Against Fat
Green tea has been found to have an active ingredient to
combat fat. Just about everyone realizes that, if you really
want to lose weight and get healthy, the fat content of a
body must be reduced. A recent study has shown that some people
who drank a bottle of tea fortified with green tea extract
every day for three months lost more body fat than those who
drank a regular bottle of oolong tea. While the exact connection
is yet to be found, there seems to be a link between green
tea and losing weight, at least in the case of losing fat.
Apart from all that, the simple fact is green tea has the
ability to satisfy a person which other tea cannot fight.
By drinking a glass or two with a meal, the person tends to
eat less and eventually lose weight.
On top of that, green tea doesn't necessarily contain all
the sugars and additives that can rob your body of hydration
and causing fat and water weight to be kept on the body instead
of being shed as calories are burned.
