Infertility Treatment
Four Steps Of Infertility Treatment
Usually, the first step in infertility treatment is diagnosis.
Both partners will undergo physical examination and testing
at the attempt of finding out the reasons of their infertility.
When the causes are established, infertility treatment involves
structural treatments, hormone therapy, artificial reproductive
technologies and/or alternative therapies.
1. Structural Treatments
Structural problems are usually the easiest to be resolved.
Structural infertility treatments usually involve certain
surgery to repair blockages or abnormalities of either partner’s
reproductive system.
2. Hormone Therapy
There are two goals in hormone therapy: to stimulate sperm
production or ovulation and to control the woman’s hormonal
cycle so that conception and implantation can take place.
As for the men, the hormone therapy is usually pretty straightforward.
But for women, it can be as simple as taking ovulation-inducing
medication, or as complicated as getting frequent, properly
timed injections each month.
3. Artificial Reproductive Technologies (ART)
Artificial reproductive technologies entail everything from
artificial insemination and to intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
There are variations of each technology. Artificial insemination
might use the man’s sperm or donor’s sperm. Invitro
fertilization may involve the use the man’s sperm and
the woman’s egg, or it can use one or two donors. Intracytoplasmic
sperm injection can include cellular biopsy and genetic evaluation
and it can be also be supplemented by assisted hatching. Although
these procedures and terms may not be familiar to you, but,
point is, there are many options available for infertility
treatment with ART.
ART is the most controversial of all the treatments available
due to the ethical and moral issues involved with every procedure.
Each couple will have to struggle with these issues and decide
what choices are the best ones for them. You must know that
there is no “right” answer.
4. Alternative Therapies
Alternative therapies are now slowly gaining popularity
in the world of fertility treatment. Even skeptics are becoming
convinced that acupuncture, yoga and massage can potentially
improve the condition of infertility, right now, there are
many fertility clinics offer acupuncture or massage as part
of infertility treatment.
Some couples find that their fertility problems can be solved
by a simple surgery. However, there are also couples who go
through treatment after treatment, and wind up trying all
of the above infertility treatments and more, alone and in
combination.
No doubt, the process can be stressful, discouraging and
expensive. On the other hand, infertility treatment allows
couples who would never have been able to conceive the hope
to have children of their own.
