Life Deals Us All
Stress
Analyze all our problems and weigh them accordingly
to reduce our stress and stressors.
Living in this world itself is a stress. We could be follow
our schedule accordingly to handle our tasks, but unexpected
events could just happen without our prediction. .
For example, when you are rushing a project which is due
tomorrow and all of a sudden, the phone rings and a friend
is on the other line asking you to join them for a night out
in town. This is a form of stressor, the person may feel guilty
for rejecting friends. We can see that this person is torn
between two engagements. He or she should weigh the importance
between two circumstances
If the person decides to finish the report and turns it in
on schedule, he or she will feel good for the accomplishment.
But, it will become a stress if the sits around the entire
evening trying to decide whether to join the friend or finish
the report Therefore, decision plays a large part in stress.
The stress can be reduced if we make good decisions. Had the
person chose to hang out with friends instead, stress would
follow because he or she might be penalized for his/her failure
Another example can be seen when a mother arrives home from
work, and the babysitter is telling her about the day’s
events, the baby is crying and she is rushing to prepare a
meal for the whole family. We can see this woman is weighed
down by stress and stressors, but the way she handles in will
make a difference, both to her health and mind.
Let us consider a common situation and how stress can be
reduced. Ok, mom arrives home, the babysitter is cramming
her head with the day’s events, the baby is crying and
a meal needs to be prepared. What should the mother do to
minimize stress?
First of all, an upset babysitter needs attention. Now, there
are a couple of choices. The mother could ask the babysitter
to attend to the child, or else she could put the babysitter
on hold and attend to the child herself until the baby is
quiet. Now, mom can return to the kitchen and listen to babysitter’s
events, while she prepares the meal. It might be helpful for
the mother to relax for a few minutes and prepare herself
for the upcoming tasks by taking a few short breaths. She
then can return to the kitchen, listen to the babysitter while
she prepares a meal.
Now if she had planned what she would cook for that day,
then she is already one-step closer to relaxation. Otherwise,
if the mother continued rushing her mental strain, she could
be all stressed out for the rest of the evening.
This is only part of our life and we all need to learn to
deal with stress that comes in our way to determine the level
of stress we will undergo. The two examples above are less
extreme, however, even if stressors present itself to us on
a more complex leve, then our decisions will affect the stress
we have to endure.
If a mother rushes home from work to find her children unattended
and the babysitter is nowhere to be seen. The mother is expected
to have dinner on the table for her family. What should she
do now to remove stressors and stress? If the mother reviews
the complex situation carefully, she will see an outing. If
the mother has questioned the children to see if there is
any valid excuse for the missing of the babysitter.
Otherwise, now the mother needs some valuable resources that
will protect her children. She realizes that dinner is not
the priority in front of her; therefore, we should weigh different
aspects all the time. That is why, thinking and decisions
all play a part in reducing stress.
