If doing these simple changes does not help and you have to use medication, continue doing the changes along with the medication. If you are overweight, it puts you at a greater risk for high blood pressure. Then, you should start a diet program and start eating healthier. Exercising regularly can help greatly to lower your blood pressure. Plan an exercise routine and track your progress. Then you can see what is working and what is not.

Include plenty of fruit and veggies and try a low fat diet. It is best to stay away from sodium, alcohol and caffeine or at least limit your intake. Sodium isn't harmful to everyone's blood pressure it is better to take precaution for your health sake.

Alcohol has been a known cause of blood pressure in some people as well. Try to only drink one or two alcoholic beverages a day. If you know this is increasing your blood pressure, make it an effort to quit altogether. Your health might be at risk.

Stress has been long believed as a main cause of your blood pressure. Stress is very common and there are thousands of ways to help you to deal with it. Try some relaxing techniques first and if all fail to work for you, consult your doctor for better suggestions.

If all else fails, then you can turn to medication for help. There are many types of medicine to help you lower your blood pressure. You might have to take this medicine for the rest of your life but if it helps keep you healthy, you should do it.
