Managing Stress Effectively
Do you find yourself having a hard time coping with
stress? Spend a few minutes to read these tips and master
the art of stress management
Learning stress managing techniques can help us to attain
relaxation. Stress is sometimes clear while sometimes it is
hidden and waiting for, the right time to blow up.
For example, there is a woman at a green light waiting for
the flows of vehicles to clear and to cross the road. The
woman takes a deep breath and shakes her head because as she
is in a hurry. Where is she heading to? Is she late for work?
Assume that this women is on her way for an engagement or
to meet her husband. Obviously, she feels stressed. But, is
the traffic that causes her stress or something else? It is
probably not the traffic, unless she is a very impatient woman.
Now the woman does not appear to be a survivor of any major
violence against her, but she does show signs of troubled
childhood as well as stress from other common demands in life.
She could have probably be prepared herself for the travel
by realizing the reality. If she had a stress management scheme,
she would understand that delays are bound to happen, since
she is not the single person in the world who travels.
If she had realized that the traffic tends to increase at
certain hours, she would have been prepared to manage stress
in that few seconds while waiting for the vehicles to clear.
Given that she still has not reached her destination, and
no one can predict if there would be other delays up ahead.
The woman is frustrated now, she will find more stress if
there is an accident is up ahead and causes a longer delay.
She needs some stress management skill to help her learn how
to handle her stress and avoid stressors.
Now, let’s analyze the woman’s situation and
see what we can do to avoid stressors. Taking a look back
noticing that the woman took a breath releasing her anxiety,
which was a good thing to do to relief stress.
However, she only did it once, she could have taken a few
more deep breathes to decrease her stress level. Since, the
woman did not appear to be overwhelmed by stress, by teaching
her to understand that potential stressor exists, she could
reduce an area of stress. Do not always think about what you
have to do, rather think about the entire view of the demand.
Let’s say, you were to meet your husband at 3pm, it
is 2:50pm now, and you realize that you have less than 20
minutes to reach the destination then you know you are in
trouble. You will not reach your destination in time unless
you make a bad decision and speed to reach the destination.
However, you will only get more stress if you choose this
idea. Now if the woman had prepared, she would have chosen
her familiar route and left home a couple of minutes earlier
than the time allowed for her to arrive, and also be prepared
for delays to occur.
A wise person would always include potential risks in the
stress management plan. Although you may not want to focus
on the dangers, but always keep in mind that anything is possible.
Of course, none of us wishes to encounter danger, but it can
happen at any time and beyond our control.
According to few, 10% of the time, most people are at risk
of clashing with danger, while the other 90% provides us confidence
that danger may or may never come. This is a failure measurement
in stress management, since no one can tell when the bad will
happen. But if you look at it from another view, it is a good
statistic, since it helps a person feel more relieved.
From here, we can see that stress management techniques require
planning ahead, decisions making, thinking ahead, and avoiding
stressors.
