1. What Are the accredited schools?

First of all, you should not be shy about asking this question, because this question can affect your financial aid and your subsequent licensing. There are several different groups accredit massage therapy colleges. Preferably, your school should be accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA). There are also other accrediting bodies such as Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), and the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS).

2. Who are the instructors?

Secondly, you should find out who the instructors of a certain massage therapy college are and what their qualities are. You may also want to ask how the numbers of instructors available. If there are only one or two instructors, your options are extremely limited, for some reason, you don’t hit it off with a particular teacher.

3. Is financial aid available?

This is extremely important if you are low on funds. If your massage therapy college is accredited by a body and recognized by the Department of Education, you may be eligible for federal grants or loans. Also, ask the school about private scholarships and work-study opportunities.

4. What do other students think about the particular massage therapy college?

In order to find answer for this question, you should interview some students and ask what they think of their training so far. You might want to talk to some graduates of the program to find out how they are doing. Are they able to find work? Did they take the National Certification Board Exam, and if so, did they pass it? Do they feel the training they received from the massage therapy college was valuable? What are their doubts?
