Mind For Weight Loss
Weight Loss Tip: Mind Over Matter
Today, with so many available options for weight loss, it
is really confusing to determine what really works for us.
What’s more, many of us have tried many of the options
out there and usually more than one. It is probably time that
we stop looking for quick fixes and accept that if you are
going to lose weight, it will be up to you and no one else.
It’s simple ‘mind over matter’.
Another common problem that people struggle with is quitting
smoking. In fact, there are so many types of programs to help
you quite smoking. The methods include nicotine gum, and the
patch, and counseling, and hypnotherapy. But for many people
who have successfully quit, what it takes is just determination.
Of course, weight issues are a little more complex because
you can’t give up eating completely. But essentially,
it’s the same issue. We still have to control over what
we put into our mouths, even if it feels out of control at
times. We all have choices. And by this time, you should have
a pretty good idea of which foods are causing us to gain weight.
We know that what a healthy diet should be and we all know
that exercise helps a lot, too. The trick is to get started
with all of these things that we already ‘know’!
It’s just a mind over matter. The ‘matter’
is that the food is there, and we want to eat it. The ‘mind’
here refers to having self control. If you know you shouldn’t
eat it, then don’t. It really is simple yet hard.
Most weight problems are actually behavioral issues. That
means that there is seldom any medical reason for gaining
weight and keeping it on. There are some exceptions that some
people do have legitimate medical conditions that make it
more difficult for them to lose weight. But for most of us,
though, it’s because of bad habits. We all know what
they are. We know that eating at night is bad, because there’s
no opportunity to work off those calories, but we still do
it. Everyone knows that snack foods and candy don’t
do you any favors, but the impulse to snack is just too great.
First of all, you can start by taking stock, which you make
a list of all the unhealthy eating habits you plan to eliminate.
Set some realistic goals and be firm on yourself. If you find
it difficult to evaluate your eating habits by yourself, you
can enlist some help, the best person to seek for help is
your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist or dietician to
go over your eating habits in detail, or join a personalized
weight loss program where the same type of service is provided.
Once you have a clear idea about what you should eliminate
from your diet and how you can improve the quality of your
meals, just get it started and do not drag anymore. Be determined
and single minded. Keep in mind that this lifestyle change
may just save your life, if not, it will improve your life
a lot too. You are doing yourself a big favor and for everyone
in your life who would like to see you healthy and happy.
Here’s another tip: if you slip up and make a mistake,
don’t let it deter you. Start again at the next meal.
A single or two mistakes will not ruin your plan, but if you
use those mistakes as an excuse to abandon the plan altogether,
that’s a completely different story.
The last step is, even after you have achieved your weight
loss goal, you need to make lifetime modification. There is
no point for a yo-yo diet, make sure that you come up with
an eating plan you can live with all your life. Of course,
that doesn’t mean you can never enjoy your favorite
dessert again, it simply means that, the morning after, you
get back to healthy eating.
