Skin Type - Oily Skin
Learn How To Take Care Of Your Oily Skin To Make
Your Skin Glow, Not Shine!
Among all the skin types, oily skin is often the most challenging
type. Oil production is all natural and it results from the
sebaceous glands which are located in the dermis or middle
layer of skin. These natural oils will help us to keep our
skin moist and supple. As for certain people, their sebaceous
glands are so active that they produce too much oil, which
lead to the troublesome oily skin.
How To Tell That I have oily skin?
Most of the teenagers are more prone to oily skin because
this is the time when hormone production is in full blast.
But if you are not in this category, there are also other
ways to determine whether or not you have oily skin. It's
quite easy to diagnose. First, look at yourself in the mirror.
Do you see sheen on your skin, especially in your 'T-Zone?'
The T-Zone is the area located between your eyes and extends
vertically down along your nose all the way to your chin.
If you do not notice the sheen during the day, then check
again immediately after you wake up the next day. If it feels
oily, it is very likely that you have oily skin. Besides,
you can also check for your hair. If your hair is oily, it's
another indication you likely have oily skin. If you do wear
make-up, specifically foundation, and you find it fades or
wears off after a couple of hours, it is just a sign of oily
skin. If you're constantly patting your face with powder or
even a handkerchief it's probably because of oily skin.
The presence of blemishes is another good sign although stress,
hormones and other factors can all cause outbreaks. Keep in
mind that, oily skin does not only happen to the face. Your
back, neck, chest, shoulders and arms can all be oily as well.
Taking Care Of Oily Skin
If you do have oily skin, you might feel that it is best
to strip away those pore clogging and shining oils totally.
But, in fact, although they cause trouble for your complexion,
oils produced by the sebaceous glands are crucial because
they act as the skin's natural moisturizer. Oily skin might
also be sensitive as well. Rather than remove the oil completely,
you need to keep it under control.
You should not use harsh soaps either as doing so may cause
the sebaceous glands to boost their oil production. They'll
instinctively want to replenish the lost oils and you may
just end up with a bigger problem.
You need to keep a good habit of keeping your oily skin clean
so that pores openings remain clear. If not, the dead cells,
dirt and other bacteria will clog pores further and cause
pimples. Our skin is usually delicate so always use a gentle
cleanser and warm, not hot water. Make it a habit to exfoliate
weekly with a non-abrasive product to help remove any pore-clogging
material or use a toner that does not list alcohol as an ingredient
Last but not least, use products that moisturize in moderation
and according to directions. Always check the cosmetics and
sun protection you use to make sure that they are oil-free.
And also, look for skin care products with the words 'non-comedogenic'
or 'non-acnegenic' on the labels.
