Are You Troubled By Sensitive Skin? Learn Some Tips To Take Care Of Your Sensitive Skin

Contrary to what you might have believed, sensitive skin is actually not a medical condition. When someone says he or she has sensitive skin. Sensitive skin usually means the skin has become irritated, red, swollen or itchy due to either an environmental condition or use of a certain product that you are allergic to. This is why this term is also used to describe changes to a person's skin in response to allergic reactions.

Although there are plenty of different reasons of why skin can be sensitive, the most common factor is that skin is reacting negatively to a certain product or maybe some combination of products. Try to recall your daily skin care regime, in particular the number of products you use. The list includes soaps, facial cleansers, toners, blemish reducers, acne concealer, foundation, blush, facial masks, or the after shave lotion. You are probably using several products made by all different manufacturers. Although your purpose is to keep your skin good, byt you must know that some skin cannot tolerate such an assault.

What Causes Sensitive Skin?

You must know that, trying to pinpoint the cause of sensitive skin is not always as simple as terminating the use of a certain product. This is because of the nature of sensitive skin, it might take a long time before you can see the signs of sensitivity. And the sensitivity might not even caused by a product. Exposure to the sun can also create skin problems, as well as extremely hot water. It could be your laundry detergent, fabric softeners, shampoo, perfume, hair spray, and even the household cleaning products. Other than those, it could also be certain foods that you eat!

Generally, healthy skin is less likely to be sensitive because it's able to act as an effective barrier. Sunburned skin, skin that's excessively dry and damaged skin is more prone to be sensitive. This is also one of the reasons of why people who don't normally have sensitive skin will develop skin sensitivity during winter months when dry, as we know, cold air strips skin of its protective moisture.

Sensitive Skin Treatment

Before you treat your sensitive skin, you need to find out the reasons behind your sensitivity. You might want to seek the advice of a dermatologist as you may have a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or rosacea. Now, let’s look at some tips for treating sensitive skin.

If you never do, now, start reading product labels, the logic is pretty simple. Usually, the fewer ingredients, the better it is. Try to avoid products containing alcohol, fragrances, botanicals, antibacterial, ethanol and propylene glycol.

Keep in mind that, always test new facial products beforehand. You can Apply a few dabs behind ears for 5 days, and if there's no reaction, apply beside eyes for another 5 days. If all goes well, full facial coverage likely will be safe.

Besides, you can choose natural fabrics for pillowcases and washcloths like 100% cotton or silk instead of synthetic materials. Check your 'cotton' balls, too. Some may look like cotton but they are in fact made of polyester.

Always keep a balanced diet to make sure that your skin gets the nutrients it needs to remain healthy. And finally, choose the right cleanser for your skin, try to avoid harsh products such as exfoliants or excessively hot water.
