Important Steps in Skin Care
Almost all of us take our skin for granted and only few of
us realize that skin is the body's first line of defense.
Basically, it keeps viruses, bacteria, germs, dust and pollutants
from attacking our body and at the same time keeps us looking
supple, and feeling good.
Good skincare includes protecting your skin from sun, wind
and other pollutants. It also involves keeping your skin healthy
with exercise, rest, and good nutrition. Our skin also needs
nutrients like vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. This
is only possible if you take a balanced and nutritious diet.
Regular intake of clean water is also vital for good skincare.
The water can help to prevent dehydration, and also keep our
skin supple and fit. Besides, it can help to remove toxins
and other waste from the body.
Skincare also includes the routine to protect the body from
the harmful rays of the sun. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet
radiation will risk damaging the skin and also lead to wrinkles,
premature aging, age spots, and cancer.
Therefore, we should use a natural sunscreen or moisturizer
when lying in the sun for extended time. The sunscreen will
form a thin film over the body, and is a good skincare tool.
There are three major causes of dry skin, including frequent
baths, use of harsh soaps and aging. Skincare requires that
individuals control their bathing time and frequency as water
washes away all oil and moisture from the skin surface. A
good way would be using a sponge bath with warm water. This
can cleanse the skin without removing the valuable moisture.
Soaps are helpful cleansing agents, however, it can also
be an enemy of skincare as they contain too many chemicals.
Therefore, we are advised to use mild soaps. Also, rub good
moisturizers over the dry skin after the bath.
A good skincare regimen includes:
1. Cleanse: Our skin must be cleaned every day to remove
dust, pollutants and perspiration that has landed on the skin
surface. Besides, those who have dry or sensitive skin should
use warm water to wash their skin and a mild natural cleanser
once a week while those with normal or oily skin should use
a mild cleanser to wash their skin every day.
2. Moisturize: Except for those individuals who have oily
skins, a moisturizer must be used every day as part of skincare
as it will protect the skin from indoor winter heat and the
harsh summer sun.
3. Protect: Natural sunscreen should be applied on all exposed
skin whenever an individual plans to spend considerable time
in the sun.
