Sleeping Environment
Sleeping Environment Is Important If You Wish To
Get A Good Night Sleep
You might not know this, but your sleep environment will
affect heavily on the quality of your sleep. Let’s look
at some tips to help create the better sleep environment.
#1: Room temperature
If you room temperate that is too warm or too hot can make
it more difficult to fall asleep. Ideally, your room should
bel cooler as this temperature more closely matches that of
the body when it is in the midst of sleep.
If you have a room of your own, finding the right room temperature
won’t be difficult. But if you are sharing room, what's
cool enough or warm enough becomes a matter of opinion. That's
when compromise should come in. Adjusting the thermostat,
using blankets, wearing warmer night clothes or using a fan
and as well as humidifier are few ways that room temperature
can be adjusted to accommodate everyone's needs.
#2: Disturbance
Naturally, a quite environment is more conducive to sleep
than a noisy background. Whether it's outdoors traffic or
indoors television or a dog that's barking or a partner that's
snoring,
these will all lead to constant sleep disruptions.
So, how do you quiet the noise levels inside your bedroom?
Well, you can add a rug on top of bare wood floor. Then, cover
windows with heavier curtains or drapes. Other than that,
you can replace windows with those containing double or triple
panes of glass. Otherwise, you can play soothing music or
use a fan or generator to help drown out noise. And if all
of the above fails for you, then consider wearing earplugs.
#3: Ticking Clock
If you still see the time on your clock even when you off
your room lights, you may be losing sleep. Sometimes, the
more you know about how much time there is left for sleeping,
the harder it is for you to fall asleep. Always set your alarm
and turn your clock so that you cannot see the time. Just
wait for alarm clock to wake you up.
#4: Appropriate Bed
The size of your bed and the type of mattress on which you
sleep both play a role in affecting your sleep. If your bed
is too small and you feel cramped, you may not get quality
sleep as well as you could if you had room to stretch out.
The same goes to the mattress, if you are not comfortable
with your bed, you can’t sleep well.
Getting a new bed or mattress is a worthwhile investment
if it helps you sleep better. Perhaps you should choose softer
sheets and fluffier pillows too. Go ahead and splurge. You'll
definitely feel better in the morning.
#5: Only Sleep In Bed
Doing other tasks in your bed might confuse your body. It
will learn to equate the bed with performing tasks that require
alertness rather than rest. So, always find some other place
to watch television or pay your bills and use your bed for
its intended purpose!
#6: Use The Right Light
When it comes to sleeping, the darker is always the better,
especially if you work the night shift and end up sleeping
during the day.
