Stomach Flu
My Experience with Stomach Flu…
When I woke up in the morning one day, it felt as if I had
been hit in the stomach by a wrecking ball. It could have
been gas, or the Thai food I had the night before, or it could
have been morning sickness. Since I am 59 years old, I doubt
that the latter of the three is at all possible. I knew that
Thai food was my occasional enemy, so I considered that reason.
Just to play safe, I took some simethicone and prayed to God
that I wouldn’t be spending my afternoon bowing before
the god of flushing.
After some hours, I was able to drag myself from my bathroom,
and lay down on my big fluffy couch. My husband had cooked
me some bacon and eggs, but as good as it smelled, my tummy
was arguing with my mouth about what should go down and what
should come up. In a second, I was in the toilet again.
I had the stomach flu. I figured that out the fourth time
I had to run to the bathroom. The stomach flu hit me like
a ton of bricks back then when I was still a working woman,
but now I have some more time to take the whole thing in stride.
Back when I was a stressed out, burnt out, hardworking corporate
woman, the stomach flu hit me like a career death sentence.
Should I be sick, if I took the time off to get well, I would
be missing out on some serious work. The stomach flu was my
worst enemy! I didn’t let it defeat me, so I kept working.
I kept working through the stomach aches, and the awkward
gassiness, and the frequent nausea, and the inability to keep
any food down. And I was not going to let stomach flu to beat
me down. Fortunately, my boss sent me home immediately to
get some rest.
Now that I am retired and living a leisure life, stomach
flu isn’t such an torment anymore.
Who ever thought that getting the stomach flu could make
a person rethink, and rework their whole life?
