Live In Different Seasons? Learn To Take Care Of
Your Skin In The Extreme Winter And Summer
Similar to our body, we need different clothing to protect
it against the changing weather, the same goes to our skin.
We need different skin care regime to properly protect it
from the elements in the weather. Skin is our body’s
largest organ, and it is far more delicate than we probably
know. Now, let’s take a look at how different winter
and summer skin care is.
Why Is The Skin Care Different?
Winter months are known to be colder and drier than the summer
when heat and humidity levels are on the peak season. When
our skin is exposed to the harsh winter weather, it tends
to be excessively dry, irritated and chapped. Although our
clothing will protect the skin on our body, but our face is
usually exposed. It does not help to move indoors. The constant
running of heaters and dehumidifiers sap every bit of moisture
from the air.
In the summer, temperatures are warmer and more skin becomes
exposed to the elements. Higher temperatures and humidity
levels increase the amount of sweat our body produces to cool
us down. As a consequence, our skin becomes oilier and tends
to have out break of pimples and other irritation. Swimming
may seem like the great way to cool off, but, you must know
that exposure to harsh pool chemicals and salt water can lead
to excessive dryness.
Tips For Winter Skin Care
Try to apply sunscreen frequently because you will be sunburnt
in the winter as well. Use sunscreen, moisturizer or make-up
with a minimum SPF of 15. Always protect lips by wearing lipstick
or lip balm with sun protection. Don’t lick your lips
again!
Keep the inside air by turning on a humidifier. Alternatively,
you can place a pan of water near radiator or heat source.
Other than that, plants can help to moisturize the air. Add
moisture to your body by using emollient-based soaps, lotions
and creams.
Besides, you should take shorter and warmer baths instead
of hot bath. Hot bath tends to strip your natural oils away.
It does help to add moisturizers to bath water, but be cautious
when exiting as tub will be slippery.
Tips For Summer Skin Care
You need to know that it is important to protect your skin
from the effects of ultraviolet radiation by applying adequate
sunscreen, always wear sun protective clothing, and go under
the shade whenever possible. Stay indoors when the sun is
strongest, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Use a cooling cleanser with salicylic acid to keep skin blemishes
under control since excessive sweat and oils tend to clog
pores. Cleansers made with eucalyptus or menthol extracts
feel good and help keep pores clean and open.
Always change your moisturizing products according to the
seasons because skin will not need as much moisturizing protection
during summer as it does during winter.
After swimming, always rinse your body with cool water to
remove chlorine and salt.
Apply facial mask weekly to deep-clean pores and help skin
retain its natural pH balance. Use a mister to keep skin cool
and moist.
