Weight Lifting Belt
Weight Lifting Belt, Can It Help Or Harm?
Generally, the people will have misconceptions about weight
lifting, it is actually an amazing workout that does more
for the body rather than building up the muscles alone. Besides
toning your body, weight lifting also strengthens the skeletal
system, the ligaments and tendons, and increases the metabolic
rate of the body to burn more calories.
There is some equipment involved in weight lifting. The primary
equipment needed for a weight lifting program includes a set
of weights. These weights can be freestanding or part of a
weight pulley system. The rest of the equipment includes loose
fitting clothing, weight gloves and the possible use of a
weight lifting belt.
There are some different opinions and views regarding the
use of a weight lifting belt when involved with weight training.
While for those who favor the use of a weight lifting belt,
the pros, have stressed the importance of using this piece
of equipment. On the other hand, those who do not fancy a
weight lifting belt in their workouts have expressed the cons
in their opinion.
Now, let’s look at what is a weight lifting belt. Basically,
this belt is made of leather, or durable nylon. You will have
to fasten the weight lifting belt around the weight lifter’s
waist and secured it, just like the normal belt. In general,
the portion of the belt that crosses the small of the back
is approximately six inches in height.
Pros of Weight Lifting Belt
Those athletes that support the use of a weight lifting belt
during their weight training routine propose that the weight
lifting belt will protect the lumbar portion of the spinal
column from the unnecessary injury. And also, they think that
the thickness and width of the belt that spans the lower back
can prevent muscle injuries.
On top of that, the wearing of the weight lifting belt will
remind the weight lifter not to bend or arch their back when
lifting. If done wrongly, weight lifting could result in permanent
damage being done to the discs between the vertebrate.
When you are engaged in power lifting, this added support
will provide extra protection for the small of the back. Power
lifting includes weight lifting maneuvers such as the clean
and jerk, squats and military press. Power lifting is completed
with incredible amounts of weight.
Cons
As for the people who do not support the use of weight lifting
belt, they argue that the wearing of the belt will cause unnecessary
pressure to be placed on the abdomen. They point out that
this undue pressure placed on the abdomen will potentially
increase the weight lifter’s blood pressure.
Besides that, in their argument, they too point out that
the use of a weight lifting belt is will hinder the progress
in building up the muscles of the lower back. They made a
point that any dependence upon the belt will weaken the small
of the back rather than allowing for its strengthening, which
is the primary reason in taking up weightlifting. Therefore,
it is quite important to lift weights with caution.
