Weight Lifting Bench

Exercises To Do On A Weight Lifting Bench

Weight lifting is in fact a very good exercise program. The advantages are numerous, the common ones are such as attaining a good cardiovascular workout, toning your muscles, reducing body weight, and strengthening the entire skeletal system, including the tendons and ligaments,.

If you are a beginner in weight lifting program, what you need to get ready with is a set of freestanding weights, a set of dumbbells, or some sophisticated weight pulley system. It is also advised that part of the initial equipment to be a weight lifting bench.

With the weight lifting bench, you can perform some exercises that otherwise would be difficult to done without it. The three main exercises include the bench press, barbell curl, and leg lift.

Exercise Your Upper Body

There are some weightlifting exercises that will better performed when you make use of a weightlifting bench. The first exercise would be involving the muscles of the chest, which is known as the bench press.

First of all, the weight lifter will lie on their back with the upper torso of the body being supported by the weight lifting bench. The barbell, with the chosen weight amount, will then be removed from the cradle and lowered towards the chest. The barbell will touch the chest, but you can’t let it rest on the chest. The barbell has to be pushed upward to full arm extension. Repeat the process eight to 10 times, and each of these motions is called a rep or repetitions while a series of eight to 10 reps is called a set. Between each set the barbell will be returned to the cradle.

Besides bench press, the other exercise that can be done with a weight lifting bench is a seated dumbbell curl. To do this exercise, you can sit on the weight lifting bench. Hold a dumbbell in each hand you “curl” the weight forward and up. Once you complete this motion, lower the dumbbell slowly and in a resistant type manner. Through this exercise, you can develop the biceps of both arms. By sitting on the bench, you are allowed for a more concentrated movement of the dumbbell by the arm.

Exercise Your Stomach

This is also another exercise for lower abdomen that can be done by using a weight lifting bench. When you are lying flat on your back, stretch your legs straight so that they are parallel with the surface of the floor. And then, while holding the legs of the weight lifting bench, keep your legs straight and bring towards the ceiling. This exercise will strengthen the lower back muscles.

Just a safety reminder to you, when you are using large amounts of weight, it would be better if you could use a spotter, which will help you to lower and lift the weight to the cradle, and also take the barbell from you when it becomes uncontrollable.

Just keep in mind that, always practice safe precautions when you are carrying out any exercise.
