Aerobics
What Is Aerobics?
Aerobics is a constant physical activity which can help us
to build endurance, burn fat and condition our cardiovascular
system. Aerobics exercises come in many types, and aerobic
dances are one of the most popular forms of aerobics.
Aerobics dances have become so popular that there are so
many variations and versions these days. There are more and
more aerobic exercises which are coupled with music and timing
rhythm to the movements while making it more fun & less
tasking.
Basically, aerobics exercises can be grouped into two different
zones, one is the high-impact aerobic activity and the other
is the low-impact aerobic activity. High-impact aerobics combines
music with kicking, bending or jumping that give similar results
as other cardio exercises like swimming, biking, brisk walking
or running would. Low impact aerobics involve less jarring
movements and is usually less intense than high-impact aerobics.
Many doctors recommend this aerobic exercise due to its very
nature reduces the risk of physical injury.
Let’s now take a look at some of the more popular aerobics
exercises:
1. Slide Aerobics - this exercise makes use of adjustable
slides along with movements that rotate around using the slide
as the main exercise equipment. Some exercise programs include
combine slide aerobics with other exercises. The slides can
be adjusted based on a person’s need for space.
2. Country Aerobics - this is the latest addition to the
already growing number of fads in cardio exercises. Country
means a combination of country-line dancing with upbeat country
music. This type of aerobics is great exercise because it
is fun but not over-the-top and most importantly it is not
too difficult for older people to do.
3. Funk Aerobics - this type of aerobics started as early
as the 90’s and was influenced by rap music, classic
funk and street jam music. From the old MC Hammer tunes to
the latest hip-hop beat, funk aerobics is a combination of
some stationary aerobics, like the treadmill or the stationary
bike with some beat busting rap or hip-hop music.
4. Interval Exercise – as the name suggests, interval
aerobics uses alternating workout intensities. The interval
exercise makes a great weight loss program, some suggest that
steady-state exercise does not get as much calorie loss as
the interval exercise would even at a shorter period.
5. Water Exercise - many experts have said that water exercise
is one of the great ways for therapy and weight loss aid.
Water exercise is a little less exhausting than your regular
backstroke or water polo, and, it is quite contradicting that
cardio exercise in the water is very low-impact & basically
just makes use of the resistance found in the water. Despite
the fact, it is still a good exercise to build endurance,
strength, stamina and promotes weight loss.
6. Step and Double-Step Aerobics - There have been much debates
over the effectiveness & safety of step exercises, many
aerobics practitioners still swear over its practicality.
The extensive number of video workouts and paid workout programs
at gyms all over the world is testament to the fact that step
aerobics have proven to work for a lot of people. As we can
see from the name, it makes use of a platform and stepping
motions in the whole cardio routine while the double-step
means making use of two steps.
