Been Battling With Your Weight Loss? Find Out Why Your Diet May Not Be Working.

Paige, who is a middle-aged single mother with one six-year-old daughter, has given up sweets for a few weeks now. She has also been controlling her food portion. She feels as if she’s eating less than ever, and she’s been religiously exercising for an hour at a time at least four days a week. But, she has not lost a single gram. WHY?

Most of us tend to standardize our diet with others. Therefore, we often neglect our individual physiology and metabolism. They offer a cookie-cutter approach to weight loss, which may be an approach that might not work for you. And hence, there are now many people who seek help from dieticians to design a personal weight loss strategy for them. This process has been made easier through the Internet, where you can simply correspond with a dietician any time of the day or night via e-mail.

Lack of support could also be another reason of failure. You may have family members who can eat whatever they want and there never seems to be an extra pound on them. So, they may fill your refrigerator with junk food and tempting you to reach for the food. Now, you may feel as if you have no one to turn to in order to discuss your weight problems.

In order to resolve this problem, many individuals turn to psychotherapists to help them with weight loss issues. This can be extremely important if an individual has turned to purging in an effort to combat their weight problems. Bulimia is a serious disease which must be addressed to keep good health of the patient. Fortunately, there are a number of treatment programs throughout the U.S. specifically focusing on bulimia.

Another reason for diet failure is the hidden calories, you may have consumed plenty of calories without even realizing it. For example, the frappucinos that are so popular today are loaded with calories, and it could be as many as 600 in a single serving! Sugary sodas might be your favorite and they too carry plenty of calories. By taking a few simple steps, such as reducing sugary beverages from your diet and replacing skim milk for whole milk, you may be able to eliminate the hidden calories that are denying you dieting success.

Inconsistency is also a diet-killer. You might go on a diet for a while, then quit before you’ve made any significant progress. It’s only natural to want to see quick results. But, you should know that a healthy weight loss involves losing only a couple of pounds a week. This is why you should stay with your diet for months before you see appreciable weight loss. It can be discouraging but you need to keep a positive attitude about losing weight.

It is more likely for you to be successful if you make it a lifestyle modification. It means, you need to view food all differently. It should be a fuel for your body, and nothing more. Do not resort to food as a means of comfort.

A lifestyle modification requires commitment; it means that you are prepared to follow the plan in the long run. If you think you cannot be on your diet for any appreciable length of time, then maybe you should try a different diet. Your ultimate aim should be not simply to lose weight, but to become healthier.
