At my previous blog, I wrote about the benefits of drinking green tea, however, there are some adverse effect in drinking green tea. Today, my blog is to wrote about the ways of avoiding adverse effects of green tea.
1. Do not drink tea/green tea when it is scalding hot or when it turns cold. The ideal temperature is between 56C to 62C. Drinking too hot tea is harmful to the digestive system, and cold tea will gathers phlegm (which is the thick mucus secreted by the walls of the respiratory passages). Tea compounds lose their potency through oxidation; nutrients such as catechins, theanine, vitamin C and B diminish over time. Thus, tea that had been left overnight, it shouldn’t be drink!
2. If you have a weak stomach, do not brew so much of tea leave, about 2 to 3 grams of leaves will be sufficient (i.e. 1 tea bag). Green tea contains catechins polyphenols, which can over-stimulate the production of gastric acids and cause stomach upset.
3. It is common practice for us to drink loose tea, which can be infused 3 to 5 times. Over-brewed tea not only tastes bitter, it is consider harmful, because tea leave contain harmful solids which are less water-soluble. These solids are likely to sneak out in the ater infusions.
4. Avoid drinking tea on empty stomachs or with meals. Drinking tea around mealtimes can cause indigestion to those with a sensitive stomach. It is best to drink tea in between meals, about 2 hours after you have eaten.
5. Avoid drinking green tea with medications or suffering from fever. Tea can interfere and interact with medications, so avoid drinking tea for at least 2 hours after taking medications. As well, tea may further increase the body temperatures not to cool down.
6. Drinking tea and alcohol together is harmful to the kidney system, causing constipation and problems to the sexual organs.
7. It is recommended to drink green tea not more than 6 cups per day, because drinking too much can cayse caffeine intolerance and minerals overdose.
